Hello to everyone!!
Here we are beginning our second week in Italy and I haven't said anything about our adventures so far. We have been busy and have been enjoying ourselves but the real reason for not communicating sooner was a lack of easy access to wifi. Now I will catch up a little anyway.
The weather has been perfect so far. It is sunny every day and cool in the mornings and evenings - just right in the day.
We enjoyed our stay (5days) in Venice. Our hotel, Pensione Seguso, was well located in the district called Dursoudora along tbe Zattere. We had easy access to the vaporettos or water taxis and we could walk everywhere as well. Breakfast was marginal and we shared a bathroom but it all worked out fine. Venice is expensive but wine is cheap!
We did mostly tourist things but on our own time. We toured the Doges Palace, the Museo Correr, visited the Peggy Guggenheim museum, spent a sunny afternoon at the Lido overlooking the Adriatic (some people were swimming!), hung out around the Rialto bridge, and enjoyed a Vivaldi concert one evening. We found excellent pizza and a good restaurant where I had pasta fagiola soup one night and eggplant parmigiano another. We have begun a fine tradition of gelato every day. Some highlights were drinking cappuchino or wine overlooking the canals, having picnics after shopping at the Rialto market, meeting friendly fellow tourists. Only downside were a few unfriendly locals who were anything but helpful with directions. Also we had one not so good dinner and a few mediocore lunches.
